Who Are We?
Mount Allison Model United Nations (MtAUN) is a non-profit, student-run organization which is located upon the ancestral lands of the Mi’kmaw and Wolastoquyik (Maliseet) peoples. Based in Sackville, New Brunswick, and located in the heart of the Maritime Provinces, the MtAUN Conference is a one of a kind experience on the East Coast of Canada.
This October, the MtAUN Conference will run as a preparatory conference accessible to all skill levels. Committees are designed to foster the development of Model United Nations skills for new delegates as well as to advance the skills of practised Model United Nations delegates.
The MtAUN Conference provides opportunities for delegates to explore and engage in a General Assembly, Specialized Agency, or a Crisis Committee. Committees will provide creative and hands-on opportunities for delegates to be immersed in international diplomacy, foreign policy, and global citizenship.
By creating a dynamic and innovative space for delegates, the MtAUN Secretariat aims to inspire further investigation and interest in the United Nations.
In the coming weeks, we'll be looking for new members of the secretariat for planning MtAUN 2019. Stay tuned for more information if you're interested!
What Is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations Conferences are an opportunity for students to be immersed in global civil society. Conferences are a great opportunity to about global issues, foreign policy, and develop research, public speaking, and collaboration skills.
Model United Nations Conference committees run as simulations of the United Nations. Each committee is focussed on a relevant, historical, or fictional issue. Participants are assigned to a delegate or character and are tasked with representing the foreign policy or goals of that individual. Delegates enact these motives in regards to the specific issue that committee is tasked with solving. The overall aim of delegates is to have their goals represented in actions or papers from the committee.
